Ten Wedding Trends To Look Out For in 2021

2021 Wedding Trends

Weddings are not stopping and people are getting incredibly creative when it comes to tying the knot. As we move into 2021, let’s take a look at 10 unique wedding trends we’re seeing.

1. Bistro-Style Entertainment

A lot of people have been requesting bistro-style entertainment, which is a relaxed-but-formal environment. They tend to have more acoustic performances, dance tributes, and a variety of musical options at these types of events. And if you really want to get into the cafe aesthetic at your reception, hire an acoustic group or have your DJ play coffee shop songs during a “coffee hour,” and completing the concept with baristas serving lattes with alcohol or simple decaf.

2. Living Room Decor

Who doesn’t love the idea of an outdoor lounge? Think big cozy throws, plush pillows and couches. Sure this has been done in the past, but in 2021 it’s no longer about the unique aesthetic as much as it’s a cozy farmhouse rendition of a living room. When putting this together, choose comfortable chairs and lounge-seating furnishings for comfort and warmth. Guests will most likely find themselves seated for longer, so pick pieces that are both beautiful and plush. Also, to make the living room come to life, incorporate greenery and other natural elements to make guests feel at home.

3. Custom Cocktails To-Go

A big trend for 2021 is limiting the wait time for your guests. They’ll love it when they can grab a canned Moscow Mule or a delicious, pre-made cocktail at your big event. The pre-packaged beverage options have become more sophisticated and trust us; creating grab-and-go beverages is liberating for your guests.

4. Smaller Cakes

People are opting for COVID-friendly mini personal wedding cakes, which are distributed to each guest. People are either serving these cakes at a person’s place or sending them home for the guest to enjoy later.

5. A Sequel Wedding

Many couples marrying this year are opting to do it again post-pandemic with an extended guest list. These sequel weddings will be larger in scale and focus on celebrating with their loved ones who couldn’t attend this year.

6. Opportunities To Brand Your Wedding

Hashtags for weddings have been around for a while, but brides and grooms are now putting their hashtags and monograms on accessories like masks and hand sanitizers. These two items are considered must-haves.

7. Useful Gifts

Say goodbye to lavish gifts. Practical gift-giving is the new norm. So many people are staying at home and cooking. Getting gifts that make staying home feel unique and elevated is on point. Think of things like beautiful pots and pans or a subscription service that delivers wine to your door.

8. Brunch Weddings

Did someone say mimosa? Or how about grab a Bloody Mary and let’s get this day started off right? As more weddings are held outdoors, couples are taking advantage of the sunshine and are having their wedding in the morning in lush garden brunch parties and incredible brunch boxes under airy tents. What makes these special is that guests can continue the party through the day and then head home for an afternoon nap.

9. Elaborate Wedding-Day Photoshoots

Many couples are taking more time for high-end and glamorous photoshoots on their wedding day to get moments to share with family and friends who couldn’t make it.

10. Colors With a Breath of Fresh Flair

It looks like the ’90s are coming back in full-force in both fashion and fresh color pallets. We forecast more and more couples will infuse fresh, nature-driven hues and unexpected palette into their wedding decor. Couples are leaning into bold, colorful weddings and shying away from whites and creams. I guess color is the new white. So think bright and happy and incorporate those colors into your stationery, decor and foods.

Perhaps the most significant thing we see right now, more than ever, is that with all of the heightened insecurities we are all facing, is that love always wins. People are incredibly creative and resourceful when and how they’re getting married. Top 10 Tips and Tricks for Brides on Your Wedding Day

Your big day is almost here, and we get it, you’re probably feeling overwhelmed! You and your loved ones spent a lot of time planning this event, so it’s understandable that you want everything to run smoothly. Avoid the stress by being prepared with our top tips and tricks to make your wedding day go as smooth as possible:

Deflect Day-of Responsibilities:

All of the planning may be done, but there are plenty of little details that still need to be worked out on the day of your wedding. However, it’s your special day, so let someone else coordinate with your vendors to make sure everything runs smoothly without having to get you involved! Decide on a point person (maybe a bridesmaid, relative or close friend you can trust) and make sure to give your wedding day vendors their contact information for that day so you don’t have to pause getting your makeup done to take a call from your florist!

Consider a Dedicated Day-Of Coordinator:

With that being said, many argue you really need a professional assistant to get you through the day. From time to time it’s good to have someone check in and let you know what needs to happen next. Being able to rely on a professional, detail-oriented assistant can make your wedding a lot more enjoyable. A lot of all-inclusive reception centers will include a day-of assistant, like we do at Oak Lodge and Parc 73, or you can hire a dedicated third-party coordinator to come in just for the day.

Prepare a Must-Have Shot List for Your Photographer:

Your photographer may have shot hundreds of weddings, but you know best what memories you’ll want to be sure to capture before the day is over. Make sure you list them out and share with your photographer so they can plan properly. It’s also a good idea to have a friend or family member check in with them periodically to see if they need help coordinating things like large group family shots – the photographer may not notice if Uncle Ronny is missing!

Don’t Forget to Eat:

Whatever you do, make sure you and your bridal party get something in your stomach before the wedding. The bridal party may be busy running around coordinating last minute details, and brides and grooms often get nervous and avoid eating altogether. It’s a long day of celebration, and not eating can easily lead to feeling queasy and light-headed, or even fainting on the altar! A good, easy idea is to have something like a sandwich platter out while everyone is getting ready.

Let’s talk about shoes.

Ladies, you’ll definitely want to make sure you wear in your brand new heels prior to your wedding day. You don’t want your feet to be aching all night. Also, remember to bring a pair of flats or sandals on the day of the wedding.

What About The Restroom Breaks?:

This tip has been passed down for generations! The easiest way to use the restroom in a wedding dress is to sit on the toilet backward, facing the wall. This will allow you (or your bridesmaids) to have more control over your dress. It may sound crazy, but trust us – you’ll thank us for this one later!

Prepare for Rain:

Let’s face it – it’s southern Louisiana, and rain is always a possibility! If you’ll be outside at any point, even if just walking from the car to the entrance of your venue, make sure you check the forecast and pack lots of large umbrellas to keep yourself and your bridal party high and dry if necessary!

Consider a “Buffer Day” Before Your Honeymoon:

If you’re planning on heading out for your honeymoon immediately following your wedding, you may want to think twice before booking a flight the next morning! Remember, it’s a long day and regardless of whether you’re imbibing or not, you’ll probably have a little wedding day hangover! Take a day to sleep in late and maybe enjoy brunch with your besties and family members before everyone goes their separate ways. You’ll feel much more relaxed the day of your wedding if you know you don’t have to worry about making it to the airport on time the next morning!

Let It Go:

No matter how much planning time you put in, remember that things are going to happen on your wedding day that are out of your control. Try not to sweat the small stuff! Keep your focus on why you’re getting married and enjoy the day before it’s over. Trust us – no one will remember that the flowers weren’t the perfect shade of pale pink, or that the candles were in the wrong place!

Take a Minute to Soak It All In:

This may sound like a given, but don’t forget to spend time with your new hubby! Many brides get carried away trying to please their guests and keep the party going. But remember why you’re there: to celebrate this day with the person you love. Grab your newlywed and take it all in – it goes by in a flash!
